Happy Friday loves!! Woot Woot! Who else loved the short week?! As soon as Labor Day hits it seems to signal the official end to the summer season. Everyone is all about the fall feels now. I love September and October in Dallas because the weather is absolute perfection. Perfect for playing outside with the kiddos and the best patio weather all year occurs in these two months. However, I am not quite ready to put away my open toed shoes in favor of booties (I’ll save those for the winter months). So today’s post is all about transitioning your summer wardrobe for the fall months, in particular how to wear your summer skirts in September (and all season long).
I love this embroidered Alice + Olivia chambray skirt. I wore it all summer with tanks, off the shoulder tops and minimalist stiletto heels. But to make it feel more seasonally appropriate in September (without throwing on the ever popular cami and chunky knit duo) I love to keep it chic yet simple by wearing my favorite summer skirts with button downs. I love this silk one from Equipment because it is slim fitting and so soft. I tied it in a knot at the bottom to keep it current and on trend. Sometimes a classic white button down (all though so chic on some ladies, I wish that I was one of them) can sometimes feel too menswear-ish for my taste, so I love that the embroidery from the skirt combined with knotting the blouse at the bottom gave the look an extra touch of femininity.
These stacked heel platform shoes are my go to shoes in the transition seasons (fall and spring). I love that they’re still open toed because let’s be real it is still 80+ degrees in Dallas, yet they are more covered up than the minimalist stilettos that I favor in the summer months. And the Louis cross-body is a quintessential fall accessory. I plan to transition more of my favorite skirts for fall by also wearing them with a simple chic blouse, stacked platform heels and a cross-body bag. Below are more embroidered skirts that I’m loving.
Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have a fabulous weekend!
Hi loves! Happy Tuesday!! Who else is looking forward to the long weekend coming up? We are adjusting to the weekly grind of school and our new fall routine. Mostly by going to bed super early. I’m such a night owl but have been going to sleep by 10pm, which is so lame but it feels so good! That 6am wake up comes quick! We are so looking forward to an extended weekend for the Labor Day holiday.
I have been wearing this Alice + Olivia romper (last seen in this post) on repeat a lot still. It’s a super unique and feminine romper. The fabric and eyelet detail make it so elevated and beautiful!! And I love the tie waist. It will be really cute with jackets and peep toe booties as we get into fall. Here I dressed it up a tad (shocking right) by pairing it with my favorite black accessories; these Alexandre Birman heels that I am still so loving and obsessed with and my Chloe cross-body bag. If you wanted to dress this down for a simple get together with friends or even to wear on errands, you could totally go with a tan flat and tan cross-body bag. You really cannot ever go wrong with a girly romper! It is a great outfit to wear to brunch with the family, cocktails with girlfriends or for date night with your husband. And the best is that a romper is just so simple to wear. I feel the same way about jumpsuits too if you want a long pant option.
A romper totally screams Labor Day! I love September and October (the weather is so perfect in Dallas in these months), so I am so excited that September is just days away. I did some searching and found some more rompers that are perfect for wearing in the upcoming fall months.
How do you like to style rompers for the fall season?
Have a fabulous week!! Just think next week will be a short week 🙂
Happy Tuesday babes!! How is everyone’s week going so far? Ours started out with a HUGE milestone yesterday….Charlie lost his first tooth!!! Y’all I cannot even believe that my first baby is big enough to be loosing his teeth (insert a million crying emojis)!! Thank goodness for baby Sam otherwise I would be a total emotional wreck over Charlie loosing his first tooth and starting kindergarten.
Okay so I know that fall is officially right around the corner, and everyone is pulling out their cardigans and boots…but it is still 100 degrees out here in Dallas AND we still do have a month left of summer. So today I’m sharing this look that I have been wearing all season long. I first got these Alice + Olivia ‘Caddy’ shorts in navy a few years ago when I was down on the floor playing with Charlie a lot. I needed something other than denim shorts (which are so casual) and skirts (which were not very practical for being down on the floor with a little one). I wore them so much that I wanted to get them in some other colors, so this year I got them in both black and white. One thing in particular that I absolutely love about these shorts is that the stretch cotton fabric is comfortable enough for chasing kiddos and for daytime outfits, yet these shorts are tailored and sleek enough for wearing at night too. And the wide waistband is super flattering.
I wore this exact outfit for a day of lunch and shopping with my mom (with baby Sam in tow) and I wore it for a date night with Jordan. The shorts I wear on repeat with a basic tee and flip flops or with a fun statement piece like this ruffle top. These literally are the one pair of shorts you need for wearing from day to night. And speaking of this ruffle top, it is so fun and fab!! It comes in three colors (black, white and coral) and can be worn off the shoulder (like I did) or up on the shoulder. I love it with skirts and jeans (perfect for fall) too.
I’m excited to pair these pieces for transitioning into fall. The top will be cute with jeans and boots. And the shorts can still be worn with long sleeve statement tops (hello bell sleeve tops like this one) or even with sweaters.
Happy Tuesday!! I hope you had a great weekend! We are back in Dallas after spending a fun time in the Midwest (Minneapolis, Madison and Chicago) for the month July. It was a really great trip, and so nice to be with family but it felt good to get back home (and back to our own beds!). Charlie still has two more weeks of summer break before Kindergarten starts, but Josh’s pre-school started yesterday. Did you see my insta story yesterday of Josh’s first day? It is SO nice to spend some one on one time with each kid. Charlie and I have a little list of things to do (like go to the waterpark) that just the two of us will do together over the next two weeks before he starts school. Now that two of my three kids will be in school this year I’m hoping to get back in to the swing of taking on some party planning jobs again. When I found out I was pregnant with Sam I decided to just focus on being a mommy until Josh started pre-school. And now that Josh is officially a pre-schooler it opens up my mornings a little to take on some new clients/projects.
This matching two piece printed set from Diane von Frustenberg is the perfect work outfit! I’m a sucker for pretty prints, and I immediately fell in love with this one. The skirt is sequined which is so fab and adds the perfect amount of fun to the look!! The joyous floral print also comes in a maxi dress for all of you maxi dress lovers. Here I decided to keep my accessories on the simple side and opted for classic black heels and black bag. These Alexandre Birman heels were on backorder for what felt like the looongest time. When they finally arrived I was so excited!! They fit perfect (I went up half a size and got an 8.5). I’m obsessed with the tie detail! And now I want them in every color (white, nude, navy, tan…).
When I buy skirts I love to get a matching blouse to take the guess work out of what to wear with the skirt. I like to switch up the looks too. This skirt is just as fab with a solid black cami or blouse. And I’ve also been wearing the printed blouse from this outfit with white jeans for a more casual look. I love the color blocking on the top, the front is yellow and the back is blue.
I hope you have a beautiful week!! I will be enjoying the week with my extremely energetic five year old! Wish me luck 😉
Happy Friday lovelies!! I hope that you had a fabulous forth of July! We have been enjoying family time and the lakes this month. This was the first year that we took Josh with us to see fireworks and he LOVED it!! Charlie was completely mesmerized by the fireworks as usual. I can’t wait for Sam to be old enough to join us too. Jordan and I left the boys with my family and are enjoying some time in Chicago and Madison. I have been posting our midwest adventures on my Insta stories, you can follow along here.
Today’s look is all about this adorable Wayf wrapped up top!! The silhouette is super flattering, and the bit of sleeve will make it a great top for transitioning into fall. The best part is that it is currently on sale!! Woot woot!! And it also comes in solid white which I love but could not pass up the stripe. Here I paired it with Alice + Olivia shorts. I’m obsessed with these caddy shorts because they are one of the only shorts that fit me well. I have them in black too and get so much wear out of both colors. I was hesitant at first to get the white because I was afraid it would be hard to keep them clean but I literally wear them all the time.
Speaking of items on sale… the best sale of the year, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale has officially begun!!! Today through July 20th is the pre-sale for Nordstrom credit and debit card holders. I highly recommend opening a card if you do not have one already, as popular items sell out super fast during this sale. And every purchase gets you points towards a Nordstrom note (aka free money). The rewards are the same for the debit card making it a really great option. The sale opens to non card holders on July 21st and runs through August 6th.
Some of my favorites from the sale that I have spotted already are below.
