Happy Wednesday! Can you believe that tomorrow is the first day of February?! I’m not sure why but January felt both very long and like it happened in the blink of an eye. Is anyone else feeling that way too? I love the month of February because it is a shorter month, we’re getting closer to spring (woohoo!!) and because of Valentine’s Day (but of course!). Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to get dressed up, wear pink and to tell those that mean the most to you how much you love them. I mean what is better than spreading a little love!
So today I want to share some of my favorite finds for putting together an effortless Valentine’s Day look. As well as some cutesy patootsie V-day inspired items. I’m the room mom for both Charlie and Josh’s classes at their schools, so I’m thinking of wearing this and this to their Valentine’s Day parties. For my V-Day date night with Jordan I will probably wear this dress. And I have been pretty much obsessed with red pumps lately. A cute coffee mug is perfect for any lady or for a teacher’s gift. And how fab would these sneakers be for gaining that much needed get-my-butt-in-gear motivation for the new month.
And speaking of spreading a little love… you may have seen on my Insta stories over the weekend that one of Charlie’s classmates in our neighborhood got the flu (what is the deal with the colds and flu this year?!?), so we made a big batch of homemade chicken noddle soup to bring to him and his family on Saturday. Let me tell you, this three block walk to deliver the soup was an epic adventure. A mom carrying soup, two boys, a scooter, and a strider bike… and some how we ended up taking home a lost dog. Don’t worry, we found his owners and returned him home safely. But it did not help my puppy fever.
What about you, are you all heart eyes for Valentine’s Day?
Happy New Year!! I hope that your 2018 is off to a fab start! I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the holidays I love how refreshing it is to take the decorations down, clean up from the end of year festivities and purge from the past year in preparation for the new year ahead. There’s so much excitement, hope and possibility of what we can do with the next 365 days!
While I have lots of goals; like staying off of my phone more when I’m around my kids and to drink more water (specifically to drink half of my body in ounces of water each day), etc… my main goal for the year is to wake up before my kids Monday-Friday. You may think, oh so easy! But for me this is a really big challenge. I am SOOOOO not a morning person. Or rather I’m SOOOOO much of a night owl. I love the quiet in the house when everyone is a asleep. I enjoy staying up to complete projects. Since I tend to stay up way too late, I end up hitting the snooze button more than once in the mornings. On the days when I’ve woken up early I do love the feeling of how much I can accomplish in the morning.
Pre-kids, and pre owning my own business(es), my husband and I would get up really early to workout before work. And I loved that! Now that we both work from home and we have three kids our schedules fluctuate day to day and I’ve come to rely on my kids to be my alarm clock. So bad! I truly believe that the day will flow a lot better if I wake up before the kids do. I did this over the summer in order to run outside before it got to be 100 degrees out, and I really did love it! But I fell of course and now I’m excited to get back to it. I think Charlie (my early riser) will be shocked when I’m downstairs when he wakes up!
One thing that I hope to accomplish early in the morning is my workout. I’m good about working out. It makes me a better wife and mom and I feel so much better. Working out is my “me time” and therapeutic. But sometimes I workout at 8:30am, sometimes at 10:00am, other times at 4:00pm. It’s all over the board. I prefer to workout first thing in the morning. It helps me wake up, gives me energy for the rest of the day, starts me off on a healthy and positive way, it’s out of the way and I don’t have to think about or worry about when I will fit it in, and I genuinely make better decisions with food and eating if I’ve worked out. I’ve found it difficult in general to keep a routine for myself and for my family ever since we had our third baby. And I think starting my day earlier (before the kids are up) will help with this.
The start of a new year is a wonderful time to reevaluate your goals and to take small actionable steps to achieve them. So I wanted to share my top 7 tips for achieving a fitness goal. If you have any tips on how to stop hitting the snooze button in the mornings I would love to hear them! 🙂
My Top 7 Work Out Tips:
1. Choose Your Days & Times
Like I am doing, select the days and times that work for you. Write it down, put it in your calendar, commit to it. Consider waking up earlier (like me) to fit your workout into your day before life gets busy.
Ease into it. Every journey starts with a single step. Even if it means starting out by waking up and doing a single push up then two push ups the next day. Or running 1 mile then increasing to 2 miles the next week. Establish your routine without being overwhelmed. I’ve heard that in general it takes 6-12 weeks to create a habit. Focus on establishing your new routine. The love for working out and living a healthier lifestyle, and desire not to miss a workout, will follow. Focus first on getting active and developing a routine before adding in any changes to your diet or meal plan. I find I eat so much healthier and make better decisions with food when I’ve worked out. Make adding physical activity to your lifestyle the focus and main goal starting out, and the healthier food decisions should come a lot easier.
3. Do Something You Love
If you don’t love it you’ll dread it. Try several things until you find something you love. My workouts have evolved over the years. I used to love to workout at the gym and liked the step machine and the elliptical. And I did a ton of classes, resistance training (“body pump” classes), yoga, pilates, step, etc… It wasn’t until right before I got pregnant with Charlie that I got really into running. And ever since I love running and “need” a run a few times a week or I don’t feel like myself. I also love barre classes and more recently resistance workouts again.
4. Quality over Quantity
Doing 10 push ups correctly is so much more effective than doing 100 push ups half assed or with improper form. Giving your all for 30 minutes is much more effective than haphazardly wandering the gym for 60 minutes. Likewise rushing to fit a workout in every day is not as effective as dedicating 30-60 minutes 3 times a week to put your phone down, leave your work on your desk, leave your kids with a sitter and focus on you and your body without distractions.
5. Change it Up and Keep it Fresh
Like I said above, my workouts have really evolved over the years. It’s fun, and good for our muscles to change things up. That could mean planning your week so that you are not doing the exact same workout each day. Such as running or walking 3 times a week and resistance training 3 times a week. Or it could mean remembering how much fun you had riding your bike as a kid so why not try a SoulCycle class. Or recall how much fun it was dancing at a recent friends wedding, so maybe you want to try out HIIT Fitness. If you are getting bored, change it up! Exercise should push you and challenge you.
6. Join Forces with a Friend and/or Join a Fitness Group
It can be tremendously helpful to have a support system. Ask a friend to be your accountability partner. Join a fitness group or schedule workouts with a group of friends. This is especially helpful if you enjoy the social accept of fitness and working out.
7. Stay Off the Scale
I hardly ever weigh myself. I can tell just by how I feel if my weight is a bit up or a bit down. The numbers on the scale are just that, they’re numbers. What matters is how you feel. Instead try to “measure” your success based on how you feel rather than on the numbers. You aren’t going to reach a goal weight or size (aka a number) and then be done with working out. You will reach a point where fitness is a natural part of your lifestyle. A great tip is to take progress photos that way you’ll have a way to track your progress. And progress photos are a fab source of motivation.
Happy Wednesday! I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far! Ours was off to a bit of a meh start. Nothing in particular wrong, just some gloominess and a case of the Monday’s. I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is just a week away!! And that also means that my sweet baby boy’s 1st Birthday is just two weeks away!!! We are celebrating his birthday with friends and family a week earlier than his actual birthday, while my family is in town. And per usual, I still have SO much to do! I’m a little overwhelmed organizing, planning and getting prepared for hosting Thanksgiving and Sam’s birthday party back to back. I’m trying to dig down deep and use the same systems that I have in place for clients’ parties in order to conquer hosting my own two parties lol!
Today I want to share this fabulous Misa dress!! I die it is SO fab!! I love how feminine Misa dresses are. And this one does not disappoint! It is the perfect dress for luncheons, date nights and of course makes for the perfect holiday dress! I love metallics, velvet and reds and black. But sometimes there is just something so gorgeous and unexpected about navy, especially this time of year. And this dress seriously makes me want to go dancing every time I put it on.
Here I paired it with neutral shoes and a neutral clutch for a softer look. I plan on wearing it with metallic pumps for an upcoming holiday party. And it would be the perfect Thanksgiving outfit too! Below are some more fab holiday dresses that I am loving. They all make me want to grab the bubbly and toast with friends!
Hi loves!! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! I have been on a total cleaning, organizing and purging kick lately. NO, I am not pregnant again lol! But I do think that Sam’s first birthday coming up in a few weeks is a big reason behind the urge to purge. We are entering into the toddler phase and storing and clearing out baby items has also gotten me in the mood, and given me the motivation, to clean closets, cabinets, drawers, etc… too. A few weeks ago I did a major (MAJOR!) closet purge and overhaul in my own closet and it felt SO good!!! I’m hoping to share more on the process, and how I go about doing a complete closet makeover for all of you soon.
Today I’m sharing one of my favorite go-to date night outfits this fall. I literally have been wearing this exact mini skirt and tank every other time Jordan and I get out for a date. I love the ease of a mini skirt and tank for a pulled together date night look. Plus this outfit is so comfortable! The exact skirt that I am wearing is no longer available, but I love this really similar one. I get so much wear out of my T by Alexander Wang basics. They are so comfortable! As soon as fall decides to make it’s way to Dallas, I plan to keep wearing this look with over the knee boots and a jacket.
What are some of your favorite date night outfits?
Happy Thursday friend! I hope you are having a great first week of October!! I am so excited for all things October; pumpkins, apples, fall leaves, patio weather, the state fair of Texas and of course Halloween. Each year I have every intention of planning ahead for our costumes and then October arrives and I end up scrambling at the last second. Of course Charlie and Josh have some ideas on what they would like to be for Halloween, but I would really like something cute and coordinated. So, if you have any great Halloween costume ideas for me and the boys please share in the comments.
Today is all about this fabulous long sleeved floral mini dress from Alice + Olivia. I first spotted this dress at Nordstrom while shopping with my mom a few months ago. It was during the Nordstrom anniversary sale, and naturally I was drawn to this pretty…ahem full price…dress. I could not stop thinking about it so I went back for it. And I’m so glad that I did. As I’m sure you can tell I’m a fan of feminine dresses and pretty prints. And this mini dress is so light and airy and flirty. I mean seriously, how gorgeous are the details!! If you have a luncheon or a date night coming up this dress would so be perfect.
Here I paired the dress with these super simple Stuart Weitzman ‘nudist’ heels and one of my favorite clutches (it holds so much!). But this fabulous dress also looks gorg with grey or neutral over the knee boots. A grey or neutral leather jacket over it will also take it into the cooler temps. I love how versatile dresses are, and they are perfect for fall when we are transitioning from summer styles into winter wear.
Happy Monday lovelies!! Hope you had a fabulous weekend! Last week was cray-cray! Just super busy. So I’m hoping this week will be a little calmer. I have to brag about my kiddos for a moment because over the past month they have had some big milestones. Charlie finished at his pre-school and “graduated” pre-k and started at a new camp…and the biggest he takes the bus to and from camp every day!! Josh started camp at pre-school for the first time and has done so well with the transition. And Sam turned 6 months and got his first two teeth. What!? How can my boys be this big already!?! We really enjoyed our weekend. While we love having the kids at camp during the week, that 8am bus is early and the week is just busy. So we’ve been relishing our weekends. Do any of you feel like summer can actually be more hectic than the school year at times?
I’m looking forward to our upcoming trip up North to be with family. We’ll get to enjoy a slower pace for a few weeks, which will be so nice. Until then we’ll chug away with our camp routine and brave the Texas heat. Summer came with a vengeance last week…talk about a heat wave!! I wore these white jeans and coral for the the official start of summer the other day. I’ve had this off the shoulder Parker top for a few seasons and still love it. I’ve linked some similar ones below.
If you follow me on Instagram, I’m SO excited to share that you can now shop my Instagram photos so simply just by taking a screenshot!! YAY!! It could literally not be more easy to shop, and is the most fab shopping time saver. Download the LIKEtoKNOW.it app from the app store (it’s free!!). Then while purrusing on Instagram, whenever you see a photo of mine (or another LIKEtoKNOW.it enabled photo) all that you do is simply screenshot the photo and you’ll be able to shop the look/outfit directly!! I am really super excited about this because I know exactly how difficult it can be to locate and track down that fab item that I see in photos that I want to further take a look at or that I just have to have. With the LIKEtoKNOW.it app it literally could not be easier. Try it out and let me know how you like it.
Okay, I’m off to take a barre class and get mani/pedis with a dear friend! WOOT WOOT!!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a spectacular Monday!!
Happy Thursday loves! I hope that you are having an amazing week! Charlie had his last day of school on Tuesday. I cannot believe that my baby is all done with preschool and will be in Kindergarten this fall!! It is crazy to me! We absolutely loved his school, his teachers and the friends that we made and we will miss them dearly! He had a truly amazing three years there. I honestly think that both the summer break and the change in schools are both happening at just the right time. Charlie was burnt out and I think a change of pace and environment is exactly what he needs.
He and I had a mommy/son dinner date last night at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants yum! The two of us together devoured enough guacamole to feed an entire family. After our dinner out we attended orientation at his new camp. He is SO excited for camp to start!! And I am so excited for him, he’s going to have a blast!
With summer break in full swing, I needed to turn my attention to summer events and this tropical oasis dress from Ted Baker is the perfect summer time dress. I am a sucker for Ted Baker’s beautiful prints. I love the high low hem, the pretty floral print, the chiffon, the tie detail and the chainlink neckline. So many great qualities in this one dress. It also comes in solid pink which I love equally as much. It is perfect summer time dress for summer weddings, parties, dinner on the patio, luncheons and more.
Here I kept it rather simple with nude heels and YSL clutch. It would be stunning with gold heels like these and a colored tote like this for an evening look. I can also see it being worn with flats like these for a day time look. No matter how you style it, it’s a dress that is sure to get noticed.
We will be spending the rest of the week enjoying a few free days and preparing for camps to start. Which means a lot of last minute errands for sunscreen, beach towels, swim suits, etc… and lots and lots of labeling everything.
Happy Friday!! How are you today? I am fab as it’s the end of the week and the long Memorial Day weekend starts! We are officially opening our pool for the summer with a pool party and BBQ! Josh got in our pool a few days ago, so technically he already got a head start on opening our pool for the summer season 😉 Getting our yard ready for the season has gotten me so excited for summer.
One of my favorite things to wear during the summer season is a denim skirt and a fun top. Nothing says summertime style quite like a mini skirt, like this denim one from Topshop. Warmer temps and vacations call for outfits just like this. I love to pair my denim skirts with a variety of different printed tops to change up the look. This off the shoulder top from Stone Cold Fox has a floral print that I could just not pass up. It’s the perfect flirty and feminine blouse. I love the ruffle along the top of the shirt and the frayed hem on the skirt.
In order to keep the fab top the focal point I wanted to keep everything else minimal. So I wore my Vince mules (last seen in this post). I still love these shoes as an easy summer option. This Fendi ‘2Jours’ is my go to for both day and night. And a Michele watch like this ‘Deco Diamond Dial’ is the perfect finishing touch to every outfit. I kind of wish I had worn some fun hoop earrings with this look. Next time!
I linked some other denim skirts in a variety of price points below, perfect for all of the summer parties and vacations that are quickly approaching.
I hope you have a wonderful start to your long Memorial Day weekend!
Thank goodness it’s Friday!! Jordan has been traveling so much the past few weeks and solo parenting three kids that are ages 5 and under is no easy feat. Especially with Charlie’s busy sports schedule and end of the school year activities going on right now. So needless to say I am excited that it is Friday, dad comes home and I get my parenting partner in crime back to help for the weekend! 🙂 There is a new shopping and dining area opening up near us, and some of the restaurants are having their pre grand opening events this weekend, so we are making a date night out of it tomorrow night and checking them out. This mama cannot wait!! On Sunday we are hoping to go to the Byron Nelson golf tournament at the Four Seasons, as long as the storms stay to the north of us. The Byron Nelson is always such a fun time!
Today I’m wearing this fun yellow Pom Pom tassel top from Alice and Olivia. I love the yellow and am hoping the sunshine color will bring some sunny mojo our way for the weekend. Pom poms and tassels are a big trend right now and are such a fun detail on spring items. I linked below some other pieces with Pom Poms and tassels that I’m loving.
This top is so fab with the tiered layers, the poms, bell sleeeves and cold shoulder. So many spring/summer trends all in one shirt!! Here I went pretty straight forward and paired the top with white ripped jeans, tan stacked heels and Louis tote. I love these white ripped jeans and wear them all the time. These ones from Topshop are indentical and a fraction of the cost. The Louis Vuitton neverfull tote is my go to tote…however lately I’ve started feeling like my “neverfull” is always too full 😂 I blame it on being a mom of three! I’m thinking about upgrading to the larger size. This one is the MM and I think I need the GM now. The newer ones come with an inside pouch too that is perfect for storing a cell phone and keys. I’ll keep you all posted on if I end up getting the larger one.
What are you up to this weekend? Whatever it may be, I hope it is filled with sunshine and fun!
