 Happy New Year!! I hope that your 2018 is off to a fab start! I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the holidays I love how refreshing it is to take the decorations down, clean up from the end of year festivities and purge from the past year in preparation for the new year ahead. There’s so much excitement, hope and possibility of what we can do with the next 365 days!

While I have lots of goals; like staying off of my phone more when I’m around my kids and to drink more water (specifically to drink half of my body in ounces of water each day), etc… my main goal for the year is to wake up before my kids Monday-Friday. You may think, oh so easy! But for me this is a really big challenge. I am SOOOOO not a morning person. Or rather I’m SOOOOO much of a night owl. I love the quiet in the house when everyone is a asleep. I enjoy staying up to complete projects. Since I tend to stay up way too late, I end up hitting the snooze button more than once in the mornings. On the days when I’ve woken up early I do love the feeling of how much I can accomplish in the morning.

Pre-kids, and pre owning my own business(es), my husband and I would get up really early to workout before work. And I loved that! Now that we both work from home and we have three kids our schedules fluctuate day to day and I’ve come to rely on my kids to be my alarm clock. So bad! I truly believe that the day will flow a lot better if I wake up before the kids do. I did this over the summer in order to run outside before it got to be 100 degrees out, and I really did love it! But I fell of course and now I’m excited to get back to it. I think Charlie (my early riser) will be shocked when I’m downstairs when he wakes up!

One thing that I hope to accomplish early in the morning is my workout. I’m good about working out. It makes me a better wife and mom and I feel so much better. Working out is my “me time” and therapeutic. But sometimes I workout at 8:30am, sometimes at 10:00am, other times at 4:00pm. It’s all over the board. I prefer to workout first thing in the morning. It helps me wake up, gives me energy for the rest of the day, starts me off on a healthy and positive way, it’s out of the way and I don’t have to think about or worry about when I will fit it in, and I genuinely make better decisions with food and eating if I’ve worked out. I’ve found it difficult in general to keep a routine for myself and for my family ever since we had our third baby. And I think starting my day earlier (before the kids are up) will help with this.

The start of a new year is a wonderful time to reevaluate your goals and to take small actionable steps to achieve them. So I wanted to share my top 7 tips for achieving a fitness goal. If you have any tips on how to stop hitting the snooze button in the mornings I would love to hear them! 🙂

My Top 7 Work Out Tips:

1. Choose Your Days & Times 

Like I am doing, select the days and times that work for you. Write it down, put it in your calendar, commit to it. Consider waking up earlier (like me) to fit your workout into your day before life gets busy.

2. Start Small 

Ease into it. Every journey starts with a single step. Even if it means starting out by waking up and doing a single push up then two push ups the next day. Or running 1 mile then increasing to 2 miles the next week. Establish your routine without being overwhelmed. I’ve heard that in general it takes 6-12 weeks to create a habit. Focus on establishing your new routine. The love for working out and living a healthier lifestyle, and desire not to miss a workout, will follow. Focus first on getting active and developing a routine before adding in any changes to your diet or meal plan. I find I eat so much healthier and make better decisions with food when I’ve worked out. Make adding physical activity to your lifestyle the focus and main goal starting out, and the healthier food decisions should come a lot easier.

3. Do Something You Love

If you don’t love it you’ll dread it. Try several things until you find something you love. My workouts have evolved over the years. I used to love to workout at the gym and liked the step machine and the elliptical. And I did a ton of classes, resistance training (“body pump” classes), yoga, pilates, step, etc… It wasn’t until right before I got pregnant with Charlie that I got really into running. And ever since I love running and “need” a run a few times a week or I don’t feel like myself. I also love barre classes and more recently resistance workouts again.

4. Quality over Quantity

Doing 10 push ups correctly is so much more effective than doing 100 push ups half assed or with improper form. Giving your all for 30 minutes is much more effective than haphazardly wandering the gym for 60 minutes. Likewise rushing to fit a workout in every day is not as effective as dedicating 30-60 minutes 3 times a week to put your phone down, leave your work on your desk, leave your kids with a sitter and focus on you and your body without distractions.

5. Change it Up and Keep it Fresh

Like I said above, my workouts have really evolved over the years. It’s fun, and good for our muscles to change things up. That could mean planning your week so that you are not doing the exact same workout each day. Such as running or walking 3 times a week and resistance training 3 times a week. Or it could mean remembering how much fun you had riding your bike as a kid so why not try a SoulCycle class. Or recall how much fun it was dancing at a recent friends wedding, so maybe you want to try out HIIT Fitness. If you are getting bored, change it up! Exercise should push you and challenge you.

6. Join Forces with a Friend and/or Join a Fitness Group 

It can be tremendously helpful to have a support system. Ask a friend to be your accountability partner. Join a fitness group or schedule workouts with a group of friends. This is especially helpful if you enjoy the social accept of fitness and working out.

7.  Stay Off the Scale 

I hardly ever weigh myself. I can tell just by how I feel if my weight is a bit up or a bit down. The numbers on the scale are just that, they’re numbers. What matters is how you feel. Instead try to “measure” your success based on how you feel rather than on the numbers. You aren’t going to reach a goal weight or size (aka a number) and then be done with working out. You will reach a point where fitness is a natural part of your lifestyle. A great tip is to take progress photos that way you’ll have a way to track your progress. And progress photos are a fab source of motivation.

BEST PURCHASES AND MOST WORN ITEMS OF 2017

Happy New Years Eve!! I can’t believe that we are already to this point of the year!! 2017 was a great year in so many ways; I focused a lot on being a mommy with the birth of our third son. But now I am also looking forward to seeing what 2018 has in store. Naturally as a fashion lover I found a bunch of great pieces in 2017 that I will definitely be taking along with me into 2018. Below (and pictured above) are some of my absolute favorite purchases and most worn items of 2017.

Best Basic –

Okay y’all I seriously had been wearing the same North Face fleece jacket for more years than I could count. Like maybe the same one I had in high school, or at least college for sure. So I was long overdue for an update in the basic jacket department. And I opted for an updated version of my beloved North Face Fleece. I love that it’s an easy throw on for outdoor runs, errands, school pick up and more. It’s soft and cozy and keeps me warm.

Favorite Sneakers –

 I got these sneakers last winter right before Sam was born and I literally wear them at some point each and every day. I am typically not a sneakers gal unless I am working out, but let’s be honest with three kids I’m in athletic/athleisure wear a lot of the time and I love that these sneakers go with everything. They’re comfortable enough for walks with the babes and easy enough to throw on to quickly take the kids to school. I do not recommend them for working out, but rather for an every day sneaker. For runs and strength training I wear these.

Shoe Crush –

 These shoes may just be my very favorite purchase of 2017! I am obsessed!! Not only are they super cute (hello straps that tie into bows!) but they are also surprisingly really comfortable 🙂 They are an investment but the quality and comfort pay for themselves. I have seen a few dupes out there in nude/blush, such as these.

Best Investment Item –

My fav handbag purchase of 2017 was also my best investment item this year. It holds a decent amount for a clutch. The craftsmanship and design is so beautiful! I love it so much that I’ve been thinking of getting one in black too.

Favorite Layering Piece –

 This was by far the “it” jacket of the year!  And I do not see the popularity of it waning anytime soon. It comes in so many colors that it can be overwhelming to decide on which one to get, so I recommend taking note of what is already in your closet and which color you would get the most wear out of. The pretty colors (red, blue, etc…) are tempting but I find the basics of grey, black or brown get the most wear.

Most Loved Jeans –

These jeans we’re definitely my favorite denim purchase this year. I suddenly realized this fall that just about all of the jeans I owned were distressed. Distressed denim is great and all but I was in need of a more “professional” looking denim that I could wear to kids’ school functions, meetings, etc… My search brought me back to one of my long time favorite brands, 7 For All Mankind. They fit me great, they have a large selection of styles and washes and low and behold they have this fab pair of non-distressed jeans that quickly became a wardrobe favorite for me.

Cozy up in these Comfy Pants –

Anyone that knows me really well knows that the very first thing I do when I get home is put my comfy clothes on. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2pm or 6pm. So naturally it was just too hard to pick one favorite for this category. I live in both these sweatpants and these leggings. I got the leggings originally to workout in but they are SO comfortable that I find myself wearing them as comfy pants around the house more often than not! They are literally the softest most comfortable leggings EVER!!! And my husband loves how the super pale pink color leaves just enough to the imagination 😉 They also come in grey, green and blue.

Fitness Favorite –

Speaking of workout gear. These leggings are my most worn leggings for actually working out. And this sports bra which I have in several colors. I get complimented on the leggings all the time. I think it’s the sheen and second skin fit, they’re almost like liquid leggings but more wearable if you ask me.

Prettiest Pout –

This lip combo of liner, lipstick and lipgloss  is by far my most favorite and most worn palette. It creates the best nude lip. I’m especially a huge fan of this lipgloss and got it in a few different colors this year.

Wardrobe Staple –

I worked hard this year to purge my closet of clothing that I had been hanging on to for far too long. And instead wanted to start working on filling my wardrobe with good quality staples, like this long sleeve tee. Having basics like a long sleeve tee that can be worn as a standalone or as a layering piece are the foundations of any good wardrobe.

Most Worn Accessory –

My most worn accessory, not just in 2017 but year after year, is hands down my diamond earrings. They were my push present when I had my first son and I wear them every single day. They instantly make my looks appear pulled together effortlessly. Even on days when I’m in athlesiure wear and my hair is pulled up and I don’t have any makeup on I still wear my diamond earrings and I at least feel a little put together and pretty lol.

Best Bauble –

My Mom got me these gold hoop earrings for my birthday this year and I love them! They add just the right amount of fun and pizzazz to any outfit. A good pair of gold or silver hoop earrings can be worn dressed up for an event or dressed down with a long sleeve tee and jeans for an elevated everyday look. Accessories like this are what can take an otherwise dull basic look and make it instantly chic.

Signature Scent –

This year I did not waver from my favorite scent.

Lengthy Lashes –

I have lash extensions but I like to strengthen my natural lashes and hopefully prevent them from being entirely non-existent whenever I decide to stop with the extensions. So I use NuLash. Style tip – you can use it on your eyebrows too to help grow and fill in brows!

Heathy Hair –

This stuff is like a miracle worker for hair! It’s part heat protectant, part styling product and it wards off frizz for up to 96 hours. I was skeptical at first but after trying it I was hooked! Wash hair, use a small amount of it on damp hair and style. Reactivate later in the day, or the next day, just with heat alone to set and reset your style. No reapplying product. Love this stuff!

Hi loves! Happy Thursday! I hope that your week has been going great! At our house we are all battling colds…sore throats and the sniffles. Charlie has been home from school for the past two days, and Jordan just got back from a week long business trip overseas. So I am way behind on my holiday gift guide posts. You may have seen on my Instagram stories that we celebrate both Hanukah and Christmas. Hanukah started this week, so our gift giving has already begun! We give the kids one small gift for each of the eight nights of Hanukah. Small toys, race cars, stuffed animals, candy, books, pajamas, slippers, puzzles. Then on Christmas they get their larger (more expensive) gifts.

Jordan and I typically wait until Christmas to give each other our gifts, and keep Hanukkah about the kids. When it comes to finding the perfect gifts for him I like to either upgrade items that he’s owned for years that need to be replaced, freshened up or updated. Think his favorite briefcase, button down and tie, slippers and/or sneakers, watch (I love the gunmetal hue of this one!), or jacket that he uses regularly. Or I like to look to technology and gift him new electronic products; like a fitbit or Nest. I got him Bose headphones a few years ago and he LOVES them, especially when he travels. He is constantly complaining about our energy bills, so the Nest Thermostat is at the top of the list for this year.

Last year I got him a new TV for our front living room, which was a big hit with both him and the kids. He always keeps some business cards in his iPhone case, so this phone case would be perfect for him. And he’s a big whiskey drinker so he loves these whiskey cubes. The whiskey cubes are one of those items that he loves and uses regularly that could use an update/refresh.

In general, I love to find items for him that are classic and timeless. Items that are durable enough to hold up for years to come. Happy Wednesday loves! I hope that your week is going great so far. It’s moving fast, which is always a good thing. I missed a few workouts last week and was feeling kind of blah over the weekend. Sam has been waking up in the middle of the night again lately, and I think that it is starting to wear on me. But this week I have been determined to make the most of the nice fall weather and get out for lots of runs and walks, in addition to a few Barre classes and doing week 4 of BBG.

Putting on fab workout clothes in the morning is usually a helpful motivator for me when I’m lacking some motivation. If I have my workout clothes (and Nikes) on I am much more likely to make sure I get my workout in that day. So today I wanted to share this super fun athletic look that I love. Ripped clothing is a huge trend this fall. I particularly love it on athletic and athleisure wear. When I first saw these Alo leggings with rips I was a bit skeptical, and thought that they would only look good on super stylish fitness instructors. But I was wrong… Not only are they super fun and flattering, they are also one of the most comfortable leggings that I own. They come in 8 different colors too. I love that they are different from my typical black leggings that I wear all the time.

Happy Monday lovelies!! Hope you had a fabulous weekend! Last week was cray-cray! Just super busy. So I’m hoping this week will be a little calmer. I have to brag about my kiddos for a moment because over the past month they have had some big milestones. Charlie finished at his pre-school and “graduated” pre-k and started at a new camp…and the biggest he takes the bus to and from camp every day!! Josh started camp at pre-school for the first time and has done so well with the transition. And Sam turned 6 months and got his first two teeth. What!? How can my boys be this big already!?! We really enjoyed our weekend. While we love having the kids at camp during the week, that 8am bus is early and the week is just busy. So we’ve been relishing our weekends. Do any of you feel like summer can actually be more hectic than the school year at times?

I’m looking forward to our upcoming trip up North to be with family. We’ll get to enjoy a slower pace for a few weeks, which will be so nice. Until then we’ll chug away with our camp routine and brave the Texas heat. Summer came with a vengeance last week…talk about a heat wave!! I wore these white jeans and coral for the the official start of summer the other day. I’ve had this off the shoulder Parker top for a few seasons and still love it. Hi guys! I hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful beginning to the week! Charlie’s birthday party at the ballpark yesterday was a big success! He and his friends had a BLAST!! 🙂 We lucked out with the most amazing weather for the party, it was perfect baseball game weather. There’s a peek at the party on my insta-story and a cute pic of me and Sammy during the game on my Instagram.

I was a total slacker last week and only ran one time and only went to barre class twice, so this past weekend I got my slacker butt in gear and did both!! I’ve also been thinking and talking lately about trying to go gluten free for a while to see how I feel without any, or very little, gluten in my diet. I would love to hear from any of you who are gluten free…how do you do it?! What things should I know? For some reason I’m feeling a tad stuck on how to start. For the most part I have always been rather good about eating in moderation, and I did a 2 year stint without eating any beef or pork. But other than that I have never restricted myself from any foods or gone on any actual “diets”. So I would love to hear from those of you that are gluten free, to know how you got started with cutting out gluten?

Okay now on to today’s look… I have been wearing this Joie floral blouse on repeat a lot lately. It is soft, feminine and flow-y. And currently on sale! I decided to edge it up just a tad here by pairing it with my BlankNYC suede moto jacket. This jacket is everything! I got it first in brown and then I saw it in grey (last seen in this post) and in this blue and I could not resist the other two colors. For under $200 a pop, it was kind of a no brainer to get it in a few colors. What is the saying? Find something you love that fits you great and get it in every color 😉 Yea, totally and completely guilty of that!

Happy Monday! Woohoo a fresh week and a fresh start!! Sometimes the week following the kids’ 4 day weekend from school can feel so long, which last week totally did after the President’s Day 4 day weekend. Any of you other moms feel that way too?

One of my favorite ways to squeeze in “me” time, especially when I’m having a long week or feeling blah, is to work out. For me I feel my best after a run outdoors. I also love a good kick in the butt at a Pure Barre class…the classes are amazing and I love switching it up between their regular classes and the platform classes. Amazing full body workout!! So today I’m sharing some of my favorite new activewear for workouts, and let’s not fool ourselves…for wearing around town on errands and carting the kids around too. My favorite “mommy gear” is Lulu or Zella leggings, a tank layered under a chic open back top or cozy sweatshirt and a pair of Nike sneaks. I have been living in these Nike’s ever since I had baby Sam. Being able to go from a morning Barre class back to my mommy duties without having to switch my clothes or being able to wear workout wear during the day for carpool duties and kids’ activities without having to change for a late day run outdoors is a big convenience.

Just like your beauty routine or the rest of your wardrobe, I think a great time to get new pieces of activewear is when there is a change in season. Above are my favorite activewear items going into spring. Like this Nike sweatshirt, I have the navy one and love it so much (sorry to all of you who see me in it almost every day!) that I just ordered the grey one too. I have and live in these leggings in the black color, but I can’t wait to get the bright green ones to add in for spring time. And how fun are these ripped leggings? Love!

I hope you all enjoyed your Easter and Passover weekend! We had our traditional mini seder as a family, which was especially meaningful this year since Charlie learned all about Passover at pre-school. He loves matzah, and he enjoyed finding the afikoman. We also watched him have a blast at an egg hunt before our family brunch with my in lawns on Sunday. I am so excited to think that next year Josh will be able to help Charlie on his afikoman and egg hunts!Today I am wearing these new Zella workout clothes. Many of you know that I love to start my day with a work out, in particular I love to run outside. It is the very best way to clear my head, get some “me time” in fresh air and to have energy for the day ahead. Charlie, my sweet almost 3 year old boy, always asks me “momma did you have a good run?”. One of the things that helps keep me motivated, and helps me to have a good run, is new running gear. I have a slight obsession with cute and comfy workout clothes, especially the Zella line at Nordstrom! If you haven’t tried on a Zella item before it will change your life.
