I have been meaning to write this post for the longest time! I have some pretty BIG news, and if you follow me on Instagram than you have probably seen several of my posts and stories on my running. You can check them out in my story highlights. And you have probably even thought that I’m cray-cray for running such long distances. Well… it is because I have been training for and am running a HALF MARATHON this weekend!
It is something that I have wanted to do for years. Right before I got pregnant with Charlie (my first son) I started running and quickly started to love it. The runners high is real! When Charlie was almost two I ran the Dallas Turkey Trot 8 mile race with my sister, and it was so much fun. I was seriously thinking about a half marathon or even a full marathon at that time. But that spring I got pregnant with Josh (my second son) and after exclusively breastfeeding him for a year I right away got pregnant with Sam (my third son) who I then exclusively breastfed for 15 months. I’m not making excuses, but my babies were my top priority at that time. I still ran during my pregnancies and while breast-feeding but my runs were 2-4 miles 3-6 times per week. Not long distances.
When I stopped breastfeeding Sam I felt like I was in a running and fitness rut, and I was craving a new challenge. In May I signed up for my first half marathon and now the race weekend is finally here! Training has consisted of a lot of really early morning runs, pushing through mental and physical blocks, and staying consistent. I will share more about my training and the race soon! If you have any questions please comment or send an email and I will answer all questions in the follow up post.
Have you run any marathons? Any tips or advice?
